Wayne Schmidt's Swords of Glass
Super Cheating Page

If you're not interested in character development and just want to get on with the business of exploring the dungeons, you're going to have to do some serious cheating... which is what this page is all about. The list below provides the Vault numeric codes for many important items that aren't given in the list provided with the Vault Editor software, which Dean Tersigni provides as a free download on The Glass Shrine. Use them to load up your Vault with all the most powerful potions, armor and spell books then go exploring!

46. gold key
47. map
48. chisel (destroys gargoyles - which sometimes hide doors.)

To use these codes to pack your vault, and through it your character, with all sorts of goodies, start by double clicking on "computer," then "C," then the swords folder, then the "sword edit" file. A window pops up. Click on "run." That will open the editor, which looks like this:

You can store a maximum of 18 unique items in the vault. When the vault editor is first opened on a new game it contains a wide range of useful items. Several of these will be duplicates such as "platearmor."

As an example of how to create a new item in the vault for your character, let's follow how to put a set of gold plate (the best) with a maximum bonus rating of +9. Start off by placing the cursor over the ID number of any item in the vault that you can do without. Click on it to select that item. In this case I clicked on the second item down: the chisel. What we're going to do is change it into something we want, in this case some super-buffed gold plate body armor.

1. Type "gold plate" without the quotes into the top text box.

2. Enter the ID code for gold plate from the list above (41) after the 0 in the ID box, then move the cursor two spaces to the left and delete the "0." Although it doesn't show it in the image above, there should be a 0 there rather than the 47 shown. If you just delete the zero then try to type the 41 you get an error message.

3. Type in "gold plate" without the quotes in the box under the words: Select a default here:. Many items can be loaded automatically from this box by clicking on the arrow and scrolling down the list that appears and clicking on the item you want. If it's there, steps 1 and 2 can be skipped. In this case "gold plate" is not on the list so we have to load it ourselves. (I have since discovered that typing "gold plate" into this box is not necessary.)

4. Enter a 9 after the 0 in the Bonus box then back up and delete the 0. This bonus number increases the strength of spells, potions, weapons and armor no matter what level you are on. For things like maps and keys, it defines the level on which they can be used. For example: a level 6 map will only work on level six.

5. Entry the quantity or quality of the item you want. For consumable things like potions, maps and keys this number is for quantity and can be over 100. For constant items like swords and armor this nmber determines quality. For example: gold plate with a quality of 69 is so battered it's almost worthless and would cost over 100,000 gold in temple blessings to repair. Making this number 1367 creates gold plate armor that's new.

6. Click on refresh.

7. Click on save.

Next time you visit the vault the gold plate +9 armor will be there, along with anything else you made. Making and selling extras is a quick way to earn gold for resting and repairs.

For starting a new warrior, I recommend stocking the vault with the following items:

1. gold plate +9 armor
2. greaves +9
3. gauntlets +9
4. crown +9
5. fullshield +9
6. sword +9
7. map +1 times 99 uses
8. green key +1 times 99 uses (You'll actually only need it once on level 1. Upgrade to +2 for level two, where there are several places to use it.)
9. curall ptn +9 time 99 uses to cure any injuries.
10. egida ptn +9 times 99 uses adds about 100 defense for each use. Slowly decreases over fifteen minutes or so. This potion protects both you and your equipment.
11. fuerza ptn +9 times 99 uses adds about 50 strength for each use. Slowly decreases over 15 minutes of so.

The eleven items above will keep you out of most trouble... at least on level 1. Since your character can carry up to 12 items, this leaves one extra for your choice. One that's fun is a spell book +9 times 99 uses. With this a warrior can learn many spells and gain magic strength. To use a spell, press "C" for cast then write the name of the spell you want to cast and click "enter" to cast it. By using strenght and defense-building spells you cab eliminate the egida and fuerza potions. This opens up two more slots. Eye of Truth, which translates coded messages, or a bow with poisoned arrows are good additions.

While you can buy blessings in the temple to repair equipment, it can get very costly for high-end gear. For example, one blessing for gold plate +9 armor is around 31,000 gold. Severly damaged armor may take five blessings to get it back to new condition. There are two ways to deal with this. First: use the vault editor to load the vault with high value items and sell them in the store. The highest value item I've found so far is gold plate +39 armor with a 90 quality. One sells for 31,960 gold. (Dean Tersigni explained that item values are stored as 16-bit words. This gives them a maximum value of 32,767 gold.) Using this technique I've driven my gold up to 1,540,000 gold without hitting a limit. Another way to restore equipment is to save a copy of your vault.dat file after using the vault editor, then using this copy to restore the vault to its loaded state after removing items for use.

I have to confess I don't know what the "unknown" box is for.
